Data migration: Start Here

Understand what Suno migrates from your previous practice management system, what to prepare, and where to find your system-specific guide.

Written by Blake Bays

Data migration moves your existing patient records, appointments, financial history, and clinical documentation from your previous practice management system into Suno before your go-live date. Read this article before doing anything — it covers what migration includes, what it does not include, and where to find your system-specific guide.

What migration does

Your onboarding team migrates your historical data before your go-live date. This is a one-time process — after go-live, all new records are created directly in Suno.

Migration covers the following data categories across all supported systems:

  • Patients — demographics, contact information, status, and preferences

  • Appointments — full appointment history and schedule blocks

  • Products — your complete product catalog across all types

  • Devices — hearing aids dispensed to patients

  • Financial records — invoices, payments, adjustments, and refunds

  • Clinical documentation — chart notes and patient notes

  • Insurance policies — coverage details linked to patients

  • Staff — names, roles, and credentials

  • Administrative data — referring physicians, referral sources, and appointment types

What migration does not include

The following data cannot be migrated regardless of system:

  • Staff passwords — every staff member sets a new Suno password via an invite email before go-live

  • System configuration — workflow settings, custom form layouts, and report templates are not transferred; your onboarding specialist configures Suno to match your practice before go-live

  • Hearing aid programming data — fitting software files (e.g., Noah files) are outside migration scope

  • Insurance claim submission history — ERA/EOB files and clearinghouse records are not migrated

  • Custom report definitions — reports built in your previous system are not transferred

  • Deleted records — records deleted or archived before your export date are not migrated

  • Email and communication history — appointment reminders and marketing campaigns are not migrated

Before migration begins

Complete the following before your scheduled migration date:

  1. Export your data from your current system — your onboarding specialist will guide you through this.

  2. Confirm staff email addresses are current — these are used to create Suno accounts.

  3. Confirm your clinic names — let your specialist know if clinic names in your current system differ from what is set up in Suno.

  4. Notify your team — staff will receive a Suno invite to set up their account; passwords do not transfer.
