Insurance eligibility verification lets your staff check a patient's insurance coverage status directly from Suno using Claim MD.

Before You Begin

You need the following before you can verify insurance eligibility:

  • Claim MD connection: Your practice or your current clinic must have a Claim MD account key configured. If you do not see the verify button, contact your administrator to confirm Claim MD is set up.

The insurance policy you want to verify must also have the following fields filled in:

  • An insurer with a valid Payer ID

  • A Policyholder Member ID

  • A Policyholder Date of Birth

How to Verify Insurance Eligibility

  1. Open the patient's chart.

  2. In the left navigation menu, click Insurance Policies.

  3. Find the insurance policy you want to verify.

  4. In the row's actions menu, click View/Edit.

  5. On the Insurance Policy Details page, click the Verify using Claim MD button in the top-right area.

  6. Wait for the verification to complete. The button displays a loading spinner while the request is in progress.

  7. When verification succeeds, a confirmation message appears: "Eligibility verification successful".

What You Will See After Verification

On the Insurance Policy Details Page

A new section titled Claim MD Eligibility appears below the policy details. This section is read-only and shows the information returned by the patient's insurance company.

When collapsed, the section preview displays:

  • An Active (green) or Inactive (red) status chip

  • The plan name (if provided by the insurer)

When expanded, the section shows:

  • Plan name and effective date (if available)

  • In-Network Deductible table with Calendar Year and Remaining amounts for both Individual and Family

  • In-Network Out-of-Pocket table with Calendar Year and Remaining amounts for both Individual and Family

  • Copays (if provided by the insurer), listed by service type and amount

  • Last verified timestamp showing how long ago the check was run (for example, "2 hours ago")

Dollar amounts that the insurer did not provide appear as a dash (β€”).

Note: Eligibility details are returned directly by the patient's insurance company. The information available varies by payer. Some insurers provide detailed benefits, while others only confirm active coverage. Suno cannot control or supplement what each insurer sends back.

On the Insurance Policies List

After verification, the policy row displays a status chip under the Member ID column:

  • ClaimMD Verified (green, with a check icon) if the plan is active

  • ClaimMD: Inactive (red) if the plan is not active

The verification date appears below the chip in MM/DD/YYYY format.

Troubleshooting

"I don't see the Verify using Claim MD button"

This means one or more prerequisites are not met:

  • The eligibility verification feature may not be enabled for your practice. Contact Suno support to enable it.

  • Your current clinic or practice may not have a Claim MD account key configured. Contact Suno support to check the Claim MD settings.

"An Error has Occurred, please reach out to support"

This generic error message appears when the verification request fails. Common causes include:

  • The insurance policy is missing required information (Payer ID, Member ID, or Date of Birth). Open the policy, confirm all required fields are filled in, and try again.

  • Your practice is missing its NPI or EIN. Contact Suno support.

  • The Claim MD service is temporarily unavailable. Wait a few minutes and try again.

If the error persists, contact Suno support with the patient's Suno ID and insurance policy details.

"Eligibility shows 'Inactive' but the patient says they have active coverage"

  • Verify that the Policyholder Member ID, Date of Birth, and Payer ID on the insurance policy match the patient's insurance card exactly.

  • Confirm the insurer is correct. An incorrect payer selection can return inaccurate results.

  • Contact the insurance company directly to confirm coverage, then update the policy details in Suno if needed. You can re-run verification after making corrections.

Good to Know

  • You can run verification on the same policy more than once. Each verification overwrites the previous result with the latest data from Claim MD.

  • Verification results are saved automatically. You do not need to click a separate save button.

  • The information displayed depends entirely on what the insurer returns. Some fields may be blank if the payer does not provide that data.

As always, feel free to reach out to support if you have any further questions or concerns!
